Club Sections

We have a very active membership here at Hallamshire split in 4 main sections, namely Gents, Ladies, Juniors and retired. Members are encouraged to play in competitions and get involved in all club activites, not only those that are exclusive to their own membership sections.

Gents’ Section

We have a flourishing gentlemen's section at Hallamshire Golf Club and are always happy to welcome new members to our midst. All standards of golf are catered for and you would be playing on one of the best courses in Yorkshire.

There are plenty of competitions organised throughout the year for the serious golfer but if casual golf is your scene then we have small friendly competitions on most days where you can turn up and play. This is also a good way for members to get acquainted.

To our visitors we extend a warm welcome and hope that you all have an enjoyable day at Hallamshire Golf Club

Ladies’ Section

The Ladies’ section at Hallamshire is a friendly, welcoming and supportive group. We are also the largest and the strongest in the area with relatively more lower handicap players than most clubs. There are many factors contributing to this but the most obvious is the wonderful course which is maintained beautifully all year and has some of the best greens in the country.

Our main Ladies Competitions are on Wednesdays but we also run competitions most Saturdays and Thursdays and on some Sundays. We have regular 9 hole qualifying competitions for those with less time or who don’t feel up to the full 18 holes and have three 9 hole courses approved by England Golf. In addition to handicap qualifying competitions the ladies enjoy a wide variety of more relaxed formats including team matches, knockouts, mixed and social golf. There are also a few drawn competitions which bring the different handicap divisions together.

We enter teams in all the Yorkshire inter-club leagues (Scratch, ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘Weekend’). We also enter the Annodata team competition. We were the founding club of the Sheffield Ladies Evening League (a friendly matchplay league played over 9 holes on summer evenings).

New members are encouraged to meet and join in with our other 100 or more lady members. There is a member of the Ladies’ Committee with a special role in helping new members integrate not only with the golf but at the many social functions organised at the Club.

We offer a warm welcome to all, so why not come and join a very successful and ambitious section.

Junior Section

Hallamshire has a thriving Junior Section and reduced fees - we welcome young golfers of all abilities from total beginner to single-handicap, world-dominating young girls and boys. At present the Club caters for some 50 young golfers ranging from 8 to 17 years of age.

We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our Juniors, and have been blessed in recent times with a wealth of talent - including multi-European tour winner and World Ranked Top 20 pro Matt Fitzpatrick, as well as several others that have represented their respective age groups for both Yorkshire and England. We run a number of club competitions specifically for Junior players and Junirs with a suitable HI may participate in most of the adult competitions.

Regular Junior group coaching sessions are run by our PGA Professional. Please contact the Pro Shop for details.

Seniors’ Section

There are many members of senior status within the club who participate in the various formal and casual gentlemen’s golf competitions and events throughout the year. Within the Seniors Section, there is a smaller cohesive group of senior players who belong to the Hallamshire Active Retired Players Society (HARPS). It is a friendly group of retired or semi-retired members within the club.

Throughout the year, HARPS members play in their own friendly competitions within the club. Additionally during the season, one of its real strengths is the opportunity for members to enjoy senior matches against other like-minded players at nine local clubs.

Further details are given on this website under the Members tab/Seniors Section. We are always looking to welcome new members. It is easy to join by merely putting your name down, turning up and playing!
