The Hallamshire course was praised by the region’s elite amateur golfers and members of the Sheffield Union of Golfers after it successfully staged the Sheffield Plate – the area’s top stroke play competition.
Despite wet and windy conditions, players complimented the condition of the course and many said that the greens were the best they have played on this year. Others from as far afield as York and Harrogate rated Hallamshire as best course they had played.
Graham Needham, Secretary of the Sheffield Union also thanked to the club for allowing the SUGC to use the course for this year’s Sheffield Plate.
The competition was won by Nathan Rogers from Wortley Golf Club who shot a 140, 73 in the morning and a remarkable 67 in the afternoon which surprised all of the SUGC officials as he didn’t go out for his second round until mid afternoon at the back of the field when the weather was at its worst.
