Visitors will given a warm welcome at the Hallamshire Golf Club by the members, by the Club’s professional, Geoff Tickell and his assistant Tom, by the Club Secretary and Manager Bob Hill and his assistant Julia Chapman, and by the catering staff led by Sue Batchelor (Bar Manager) and David Gray (Steward) . We welcome visitors to come and see for themselves why our Colt-designed course has been so highly rated by the media and by players of all abilities.
Societies are most welcome and are invited to contact the Secretary, Bob Hill, for quotations and bookings (tel. 0114 230 2153 ext 20, email: secretary@hallamshiregolfclub.co.uk) .
We also welcome applications for membership – enquiries also to the Secretary. Ladies considering joining are invited to view the Welcome from the Ladies’ Captain, on the Ladies Section page under the Visitors’ tab.
Hallamshire Golf Course has a reputation as a tough challenge but don’t let that put you off. We have cut back the rough hugely in recent years. A long-term plan to get rid of the Yorkshire Fog grass by scraping it out and encouraging the finer fescue grasses is now paying off. Entering the grass alongside many fairways no longer almost guarantees a lost ball – rather, you usually find your ball quickly and simply suffer the penalty of having to play out from wispy grass. So come and see the changes – and let us know what you think of them. The higher handicap members are delighted!
We are proud to be one of the Harry Colt designed courses in the UK (the other two great golf course designers were of course Dr Alistair McKenzie and James Braid). For a fascinating non-profit website setting out the history of their work and listing the courses they designed visit golfdesigner.com.
