Hallamshire Golf Club has had a very successful junior section for many years.
Famous ex-junior members include professional golfers Matt Fitzpatrick (currently ranked in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking) and Alison Nicholas (major tournament winner and ex-Solheim Cup team member and captain); top amateurs including Mary Everard (winner of most top ladies amateur championships and 4 time Curtis Cup team member). Our current juniors include Alex Fitzpatrick (2017 Yorkshire Boys and Yorkshire Champion and England player) and Barclay Brown (England Player). Holly Morgan plays in the Yorkshire Ladies team and is currently in the USA on a university golf scholarship.
However, as well as striving for success and being the home club of many excellent junior players our main aims are enjoyment, improvement, and attainment. We run regular beginner and improver group coaching sessions during the summer months. There are separate groups for boys and girls both members and non-members. Many juniors also have individual lessons with one of our professional team. We aim to encourage juniors to progress to playing on our short 'blue tee' course and from there onto the longer red, yellow or white courses.
We hold regular competitions for junior members throughout the golf season and especially in the school holidays. Juniors with CONGU handicaps are also able to play in and compete for most of our trophy competitions. They normally play with a responsible adult until they reach an appropriate age or handicap level.
