A Message from our 2017 Club Captains
2017 Club Captain Mike Paterson
It is a great honour to have been asked to be Captain for 2017
I have played golf for over 50 years and have been a member of 3 other great golf courses in Yorkshire, Staffordshire and Warwickshire. I even managed to win the Scratch Cup at Edgbaston, another Harry Colt designed course, in my early 20’s. I know members will find this difficult to believe particularly with my standard of golf today!
The Hallamshire is one of the best courses in Yorkshire and this year will host the Yorkshire Match Play Championship. You will need to travel a long way to find better greens.
In any conditions it is a good test of golf and the views from the course and Clubhouse are magnificent. No matter how you have played you can always be assured of a warm welcome in the Clubhouse.
We have a thriving Junior and Senior section and many informal ‘fiddles’ which are easy to join
The Men’s Scratch team will be again competing in Division 1 of the Sheffield Union league
The Captains’ chosen charity this year is ‘Neurocare’ which is a local charity. We hope that members will support the charity throughout the year
Enjoy your golf in 2017
2017 Lady Captain Pat Axe
It is a huge privilege to have been asked to be Lady Captain for 2017.
We are just so lucky at Hallamshire to have such a wonderful course, which is always maintained in excellent condition.
On joining the club in 2006 as a complete beginner, the warm, welcoming and supportive atmosphere was immediately apparent. I rapidly learned to love the golf, the Club and the friendship it offered and have enjoyed acting as Lady Secretary for 5 years.
Our membership is wide-ranging with many talented and successful golfers in our midst – yet all contribute to make Hallamshire a very special community.
The strong, friendly Ladies Section has more than 110 members, over 80 having active playing handicaps, which cover the full spectrum. We can therefore run 4 teams in the Yorkshire Inter-club Leagues - 2 Scratch, ‘B’ and ‘ADP’, in addition to the Mail on Sunday team. We also stage a wide variety of engaging and friendly internal competitions, appreciated by all.
If you are able to play the course, I am sure that you, too, would enjoy it and we should be delighted to see you.
The Captains’ chosen Charity this year is ‘’Neurocare”. We hope that you will feel able to join us in supporting such a very worthy cause and in making 2017 a really happy, and successful year of golf.
